Matthew Root’s practice focuses primarily on commercial real estate leasing and commercial and residential real estate transactions. Matt has extensive real estate experience, including retail leasing and lease re-structuring and property manager services.

Matt also provides strategic counseling in re-development matters and public and private financing options.

Prior to joining Bern Root LLC, Matt practiced at Arent Fox, and at Olshan Frome Wolosky. Before entering the legal field, Matt served as a B-52 Navigator in the 23rd Bombardment Squadron in the United States Air Force.

· Represented national retailers in connection with negotiating and drafting leases, subleases, and other lease-related documents for shopping center and other retail space. Represented internationally known name-brand retail tenants in connection with negotiating and drafting leases and subleases for retail, office, warehouse and distribution facilities throughout the United States.

· Achieved favorable results representing retail tenants in court and before administrative agencies in connection with code violation and code compliance matters, including ADA access complaints brought by the New York City Human Rights Commission.
